Swedish
Massage at the Creative Health Centre, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge
What
is Swedish Massage?
Swedish massage
has been described as “the manipulation
of the soft tissue for therapeutic purposes”.
The name
can be attributed to the Swedish professor Per Henrik Ling
who established a scientific system of massage and exercise
based on physiology.
How does it work?
Our lifestyle can often contribute to the aches and pains we
experience. Demanding jobs that require long periods of sitting
or standing can cause us to adopt poor postural positions,
where restriction, tensions and toxins can develop.
Massage is an aid to circulation, which can help to improve
the flexibility of joints, increasing their range of
motion. Muscle
tone is often improved as a result of massage, as the waste
products present in the muscles are eliminated.
Increased circulation also delivers an increased oxygen
supply to the cells of the body; this can speed up metabolism
and lead
to healthier cell function.
What
is Swedish Massage used for?
Swedish
Massage is an aid to circulation and can help improve the
flexibility of joints and increase their
range of motion.
What does treatment involve?
You
will be asked to undress to your underwear or removing only
the clothing you feel comfortable to do so, while the therapist
leaves the room. Once undressed you will lie on the treatment
couch usually face down to begin with and cover yourself with
the towels.
